Quote 1: Mr. Dolfus Raymond "Cry about the simple hell people give other people-- without even thinking."
Mr. Raymond says this when he's trying to explain to the kids why he only pretends to drink alcohol when he's really just got Coke. He tries to tell them people are so judgmental and hateful, that it makes THEM feel better to think he's drunk rather than just choosing to live the way he wants to.
Quote 2: Scout "...and when they finally saw him, why he hadn't done any of those things...Atticus, he was real nice."
This quote by Scout pretty much sums up everything that she's learned throughout the book. She has experienced and witnessed all sorts of discrimination. She has been treated poorly because she is a girl. She saw the town treat Tom Robinson ugly because he was black. And she treated Boo Radley poorly because he would rather be in his home than outside of it. In the end, she learned that to really know someone you have to see them. And to really see them, you have know them.
